Let’s think outside the heart! While there are millions of happy couples who celebrate Valentine's Day, there are just as many people who have split from one partner or another over the years. Since so many couples ritualize Valentine’s Day by doing something special, why not host a bash for the formerly attached with an Anti-Valentine’s Day Party?

Here are some great ways to honor the happy (or brokenhearted) singles in the world:

Hang flyers around the bar with breakup-positive sayings on them

  • I tried. You didn’t. I’m done. Have fun.
  • Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.
  • If Jennifer can get over Brad fucking Pitt, you can get over this guy!
  • If Tommy can get over Pamela fucking Anderson, you can get over this gal!
  • Never be a prisoner of your past. It was just a lesson, not a life sentence.
  • Every cell in our body is destroyed and replaced every 7 years. How comforting it is to know that one day I’ll have a body that you will have never touched.
  • Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because she’s finally somebody’s else’s problem!
  • When you run into your ex…
    • Him: “Hey.”
      You: “Hey.”
      Him: What’s up?
      You: “My standards. Bye.”
  • Unless it’s mad, passionate, extraordinary love, it’s a waste of time. There are too many mediocre things in life. LOVE should not be one of them.
  • The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else.

Hire a DJ and request that he or she play a breakup song every other song. No happy love songs allowed! Here are some great titles for your playlist

  • Love Stinks - The J. Geils Band
  • Somebody That I Used to Know – Gotye
  • You Oughta Know – Alanis Morrisette
  • I Heard It Through the Grapevine – Marvin Gay
  • Before He Cheats – Carrie Underwood
  • I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
  • You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling – The Righteous Brothers
  • Believe – Cher
  • I’m Still Standing – Elton John

Hire a trivia host to create an Anti-Valentine themed game. They could prepare trivia questions about notorious breakups across categories such as:

famous breakups

  • Pop culture - Kim Kardashian and Kanye, Sean Mendes and Camila Cabello, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, etc.
  • History - Antony and Cleopatra, Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, etc.
  • Sports – Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods, Chris Evert and Jimmy Connors, etc.
  • An audio round comprised entirely of break up songs

Get your patrons involved in purging their own heartbreak! Promote the night by telling everyone to bring in a photo of their ex. Have a shredder on the bar. Everyone who shreds their ex’s photo gets a raffle ticket. Winner get a $25 gift certificate! Have your DJ announce their name and play a breakup song just for them.
